Week 5 Update

With only two weeks left of the session, the budget is being finalized, the biggest pieces of legislation are being debated, and the days are getting longer. Here's a glance at Rep. Dunnigan's crazy week.

Monday
On the American Cancer Society Day at the Capitol, Rep. Dunnigan had the opportunity to meet with with those advocating for cancer to become a state and national priority.


 Tuesday
With 14 years under his belt, it's clear Rep. Dunnigan thoroughly enjoys his service at the Capitol. 


 Wednesday
Rep. Dunnigan's only staff are on full-time college intern and a few part-time high school interns from Skyline. He is always grateful for their help.


Thursday
On Thursday evening, Rep. Dunnigan hosted two meetings at the Taylorsville City Hall. First, he had a meeting with Granite School District teachers and administrators. Then, he had town hall meeting to better understand the views of his constituents and answer their questions.


 Friday
Rep. Dunnigan sat down with this cute 8-year-old girl to answer her questions regarding his role in government. She had lots of good questions!

Week 4 Update

Even though this was only a 4-day week, Rep. Dunnigan was a busy man. He spent 10 hours on the House floor during floor time, he had 43 meetings in his office, and he answered hundreds of emails. Here's another weekly glimpse into his world at the Capitol. 

Tuesday
Rep. Dunnigan spoke to the Business, Economic Development, and Labor Appropriations Subcommittee to introduce his Health Improvements Initiative. There will be more to come on that topic next week!


 Wednesday
A group of 75 fifth graders from Terre Linda Elementary came on a field trip to the Capitol. Rep. Dunnigan spoke to them about his role in the legislature and to answer their curious questions. 


 Thursday
Rep. Dunnigan and Sen. Shiozawa participated in an interview regarding their individual Medicaid Expansion bills with KTVX on Thursday afternoon. This discussion will be aired on KTVX on Channel 4 on Sunday at 8:00 A.M.


Friday
Rep. Dunnigan knows how important education is. He talked with educators at the Capitol about what education programs they believe should be funded this year.

Week 3 Update

We're almost half-way through the 61st legislative session in Utah. Take a look at week three in review through the eyes of Rep. Dunnigan. 


Monday
 When the Speaker of the House and the Speaker Pro Tem are both occupied, Rep. Dunnigan enjoys leading the House Chamber during floor time. This happens about once a week. 


Tuesday
Tuesday was Art Day on the Hill. A few friendly Taylorsville constituents came to visit Rep. Dunnigan to discuss the importance of art in our community.


Wednesday
Wednesday evening was the Taylorsville town hall meeting. Rep. Dunnigan likes talking with his constituents to understand how to best represent his district each year.


Thursday
Rep. Dunnigan spoke to a class of graduate students at his alma mater, the University of Utah, on Thursday all about healthcare and his Health Improvements Initiative.


Friday
Rep. Dunnigan keeps having visits from family this session. He loves when family, friends, and constituents come to sit on the floor in the House Chamber with him.


Extra
One of Rep. Dunnigan's favorite moments this week was with this group of men and women from  the Middle East. They came to meet with Rep. Dunnigan and learn from his perspective how a democratic government works at the state level.

Week 2 Update

As the second week of the legislative session is coming to a close, legislators are shaking their heads at how fast it is all going with only five weeks left. Rep. Dunnigan has already had two bills pass the House and he's working on quite a few more. Here's a brief overview of this past week: 


Monday
During his first House election in 2003, a constituent and friend gave him a Lincoln penny saying, "As you represent our district...be honest like Abe and never forget every penny counts."



Tuesday
Rep. Dunnigan met with a visiting junior high Constitution class. They loved his personal privilege introduction (a.k.a. House version of a shout-out) for their class during floor time.



 Wednesday
There's a calendar that depicts each legislator doing some form of exercise on nearly every desk in the House Chamber. Apparently, Rep. Dunnigan is going to take up biking this year. 



Thursday
As the Majority Leader in the House, Rep. Dunnigan often conducts the Majority Caucus lunch meetings. As a fun fact, those who conduct these meetings always use a gavel to open and close the meetings. 



Friday
Team Dunnigan is hard at work today. Rep. Dunnigan gives these interns an amazing, fast-pace experience each session. This year he has three Skyline High School interns and one BYU intern.
